ADRIEN BARRÈRE (1877-1931) [TOUT PARIS A LA REVUE DES FOLIES BERGERE.] 1902.
91x152 1/4 inches, 231x386 3/4 cm.. Wall & Cie., Paris.
Condition B / B-: overpainting, restored losses, repaired tears, creases and abrasions in margins and image. Ten-sheets.
This ten-sheet poster is the largest and most ambitious poster ever produced for the Folies-Bergere. Disregarding the performances entirely, the image focuses on the early "red carpet" scene, Paris'high-society and the dignitaries who flocked to the legendary music hall. Among the prominent dignitaries and stars depicted is "La Belle Otero" at the arm of Arthur Meyer (the press mogul), Louise Balthy in her ermine coat, Henri Rochefort, Brasseur and the unmistakable Prince of Wales (on the far right with the white beard). The other caricatures no doubt represent a star-studded pantheon of Paris's Belle Epoque A-list. This is the version before lettering.
